“The dominant political ideologies only weaken the bloc, and the idea of a United States of Europe is a complete dead end. A strong EU must be based on strong member states that proudly represent their cultural, historical and religious roots,” MTI quoted Szijjarto as saying.

According to him, the European discourse was overly ideologized and politicized even before the conflict in Ukraine, “it was difficult to negotiate based on pragmatism and rationality, and the armed conflict only aggravated the situation.”
“If someone speaks with a voice of rationality or pragmatism, he will immediately be accused of violating the unity of the EU and NATO, or even of being a Russian spy or a representative of the Kremlin propaganda,” the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry said.

Szijjarto repeated the thesis previously expressed that Central Europe and specifically Hungary always lost in a situation where the world was divided into blocs. “We believed in a future in which there could be good cooperation between regional associations, in a global order in which the West and the East could cooperate in a pragmatic and civilized manner … We stand for the restoration of cooperation not because we are someone’s spies, but because it is our central national security interest,” he stressed.
According to the Hungarian minister, the problem would be resolved by the return of mutual respect to international relations, the predominance of physical reality over ideology and the preservation of open channels of communication.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he was hurt because his country was being persecuted in the European Union, but the economic well-being of Hungary depends on Brussels, so it is in the national interests of Budapest to remain in the union.
