The Educational Nucleus of the Portinari Project completed 25 years and decided to innovate, promoting the remote and free training of art educators to the public throughout the country. The objective of the Portinari Project is to expand the access channels of the most needy populations to the art of the painter Candido Portinari, and its education center seeks to democratize the art and the ethical and humanist legacy of the artist, taking his work to places of more difficult access, such as needy communities, outskirts, prisons, hospitals and riverside communities, among others.

Registration closes this Wednesday (1st), and the course begins the following day (2nd).
According to the coordinator of the project’s Educational Nucleus, Guilherme de Almeida, until some time ago, the training of art educators was carried out in person and focused on the territories where the itinerant exhibitions of this nucleus were held. An example was the show Portinari in the Quebradasin August last year, which took the painter’s work to communities in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The training of educators was carried out in person and was aimed at more restricted groups of people who would work directly at the exhibitions and also those who worked in nearby institutions and would visit the exhibition, such as teachers from public and private schools, who would have the opportunity to access training courses and workshops, but in a very localized way, said Almeida.
Real time
Initially, the project proposes remote training, which differs from distance education (EAD) because it is in real time, with teachers being able to respond instantly to students’ questions. “There is this exchange”. Interested people, in general, will be able to clear all doubts in real time. Later, those who had access to this course as an initial stage will be able to continue their training.
“The project will bring great exponents of research at the university, but who have a very close relationship with the school grounds, the museums, the art that is made in the streets. We were careful to bring in great experts from universities, especially from the University of São Paulo (USP) and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), to act directly in the training of this public”, added the coordinator of the Educational Nucleus of the Portinari Project.
Almeida said that those who are interested in continuing their studies and want to work as art educators and monitors at Portinari will be able to do a brief internship in the project at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ), in person, so that they can stay aware of Candido Portinari’s work and can participate in the project’s exhibition actions planned for this year as monitors and art educators, working on a paid basis.
For the founder and general director of the Portinari Project, João Candido Portinari, the new format is a way to further democratize access to information about the painter’s legacy: his art, his commitment to the social and the human. “Before, this route was carried out punctually and regionally with itinerant events. Now, we are creating a fixed schedule, every six months, which allows us to include more people from the most varied segments, without financial or territorial limitations”, added João Candido, who is the painter’s son.
Registrations
Enrollment for the first part of training the general public as art educators has already started and requires no formal prerequisite. They are aimed at those who want to start in the craft and for those who are already art educators to have the opportunity to deepen and improve their studies. Initially, 100 places had been reserved, but the great demand for the course led the project to expand that number and already has 300 enrollments from all over Brazil, said Guilherme de Almeida.
“As the access will be remote, people will be able to sign up and participate”. To obtain the certificate, a minimum participation of 75% will be required. Classes will be given from 7 pm to 8:30 pm and will be recorded on YouTube, but in this case, there will be no possibility of receiving a certificate, Almeida clarified.
