MOSCOW, March 17 – RIA Novosti. With the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, the tension on the border between Ukraine and Crimea, which had persisted for eight years, disappeared, the head of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, said in an interview with Izvestia.

“The situation is calm and controlled. There are no Ukrainian troops on the border, so the tension that persisted for eight years until the start of a special military operation has disappeared,” Aksyonov said.

He also noted that Ukrainian nationalists have always been a “marginal minority” in Crimea. According to him, after the “Crimean Spring” many of them “ran away for Perekop.” Aksyonov added that thanks to the effective work of the special services, there is no increase in the activity of nationalists in Crimea.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.”

Aksenov told how to permanently solve the problem of water shortage in the Crimea

For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Russian Armed Forces, the DPR and LPR groups are developing an offensive, but there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine, the Russian president stressed.
