ANKARA, November 16 – RIA Novosti. The fire in the Fatih district of Istanbul was caused by not one, but several explosions, which led to panic among the population, the police launched an investigation, the newspaper Yeni Akit writes.
Earlier, the Haberturk portal reported that an explosion occurred in the Fatih area, after which several cars were engulfed in flames, the cause of the explosion is unclear. Most of the main historical and cultural attractions of the city are concentrated in the Fatih district, in particular, Sultanahmet Square and a number of mosques famous in the eastern world are located here.

“The fire started in a car for an unknown reason and spread to other vehicles. Six cars became unusable. The sounds of explosions that followed one after another caused panic among the population,” writes Yeni Akit.
Fire brigades reportedly extinguished flames rising from cars on Kojamustafapasa Street.
“Police have launched an investigation into the incident,” the newspaper reported.
