MOSCOW, May 15 – RIA Novosti. The Eurovision Song Contest has shown that humiliating Europe is now in trend, says Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
“If they told me that what won, I would probably ridicule. Because it is so obvious and so indecent that it seemed to me that the European Broadcasting Corporation and the organizers would not allow them to be humiliated like that. But It turns out that humiliating Europe is now in trend,” Zakharova said on the air of “Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” on the Russia 1 TV channel.
The winner of the Eurovision 2022 music contest, which ended on Sunday night in Turin, was the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra with the song Stefania. According to the total results of the audience voting and the jury, the representatives of Ukraine received 631 points, becoming the winners by a wide margin from the closest rival – Great Britain, which received 466 votes.
After the performance of the composition, the band’s frontman made an appeal in English to support Ukraine. Due to the rules of the contest, according to which political calls from the stage are prohibited, the organizers of Eurovision had to comment on the situation with this statement: the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) described it as “more of a humanitarian gesture than a political one.”
