Andritz suspends new operations in Russia

VIENNA, April 15 – RIA Novosti. Andritz AG, a large Austrian international engineering concern, announced on Friday that it was suspending all new operations in Russia in connection with the military operation in Ukraine.
The nineteenth-founded company, according to its latest available annual report (2020), has revenues of around 6.7 billion euros and employs more than 27,000 employees. It manufactures, in particular, equipment for hydroelectric power plants, the pulp and paper and agricultural industries, and steel production.
“International Technology Group Andritz <…> expresses support for the Ukrainian people. Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and the imposition of international sanctions, Andritz has temporarily suspended all of its new operations in Russia,” the group’s website said in a statement.
Earlier, the Austrian automotive concern Steyr Automotive said that due to sanctions it would not be able to continue cooperation with the Russian company GAZ, as planned.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, as of March 25, they have completed the main tasks of the first stage – they have significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass.
