Starting this Saturday (21), children from the capital of São Paulo will be able to have fun with the Municipal Play Week, which will take place until May 28. The event, which is annual, aims to raise awareness of the right to play and make the culture of childhood visible, mobilizing everyone on the importance of the integral development of children.

The Municipal Week of Play is aligned with the World Week of Play, organized by the Aliança pela Infância, and the theme chosen for this edition is “Trusting the Strength of Play”.

“Playing is the space where the child works on aspects of trust. Through play, the child establishes bonds with other people, learns to relate. Free play is a dip in the child’s confidence in his own power. The child has to trust that he will be able to jump, that he will be able to stack those wooden blocks, that he will be able to throw himself into the mother’s arms. She conquers her powers and gradually learns her limits, she builds confidence in herself and in the world around her”, explained the coordinator of the Executive Secretariat of Aliança Pela Infância, Letícia Zero.

Due to the moment of gradual reopening in relation to the pandemic, this year, the week will feature both in-person and online activities. The activities are free and varied with the objective of welcoming children and also those who live with them, who are interested in the culture of play and who work professionally in the promotion of public policies aimed at children, their full protection and the guarantee of the right when playing.

The online program will feature videos with proposals for games for children, produced by the Family Social Assistance Services (SASFs), of the Municipal Secretariat for Social Assistance and Development, and conversation circles with professionals and experts.

The first circle will be aimed at everyone who lives with children – families, caregivers, educators and other professionals – to discuss the importance of playing for child and human development. The second round will be aimed at public managers and deals with the institutionalization of policies that favor the right to play and the integral protection of children.

Activities for children will be offered in a decentralized manner in different public spaces and facilities throughout the city. The complete schedule of the Municipal Play Week 2022 can be accessed on the internet.
